One Day Crowns Mean Fast Restoration

Time is precious, and it’s great to know that a procedure that used to take two appointments, with a week or more of waiting time in between, can now be handled in a single appointment, without any compromise in the quality, durability and beauty of the crown. If you have a damaged tooth that has been recommended for dental crown in Southlake, TX a one day crown may be the answer your busy schedule needs, whether you are a new patient, or have been under our care for years.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is like a cap that covers a damaged or discolored tooth, giving the tooth both added strength, and a uniform appearance with other teeth. A traditional crown covers the entire visible portion of a tooth. There are also specialized types of crowns that go over portions of a tooth, often the larger molars, in the back of your mouth.  Inlays and onlays are two common types or specialized crowns, and they can also be made as part of the CEREC same day crown procedure.

How Does the One Day Process Work?

Crowns are needed when an untreated cavity grows large, or perhaps when a tooth has had to undergo root canal therapy. A severely chipped or cracked tooth may also need the support of a crown, in an effort to avoid having to extract and replace the tooth. Cosmetic crowns can cover a tooth that is discolored and shows awkwardly in a smile. Crowns can also change the shape of a tooth that does not match the rest of your smile.  Using 3-D imaging, the process begins as we take careful measurements of the tooth in need of the crown. These images are quickly sent to the CEREC machine, which will create a custom crown from a block of porcelain, right in our office. While the crown is being milled, your damaged tooth will be reshaped to receive the crown. The newly-produced crown is then checked for proper fit, and bonded permanently in place before you leave.

Will My Crown Be Durable and Beautiful?

Crowns are very durable and can last a lifetime. You will want to brush them, and floss between and around them, the same way you care for your natural teeth. Just as you want to be gentle with your natural teeth, when you have a crown, you may want to avoid eating some foods (popcorn, for example) unless you can carefully check for unpopped kernels or hard bits. Also do not use your teeth as tools to open packaging or remove tags.
