Dental Sedation Offers Comfortable Treatment Experiences

southlake dental sedation

Do you have a fear of the dentist, or anxiety about undergoing dental treatment? We understand this could be due to a number of factors, and we never want to minimize your discomfort. Which is why we offer treatment to help you feel calm and relaxed during your dental procedure. At our Southlake, TX, dental office, we can help you enjoy your visit with dental sedation.

When You Need a Calming Treatment

We could recommend this option for people undergoing more complex treatments, such as tooth extraction or the placement of dental implants. Our team may recommend this for those with anxiety, as serious dental phobias could make undergoing even minor dental cleanings a more difficult process. This is also helpful for those with special needs. We have two sedation options, and the one we will choose for you will be based on your age, weight, medical history, dental records, and anxiety levels. We also take any medications you’re currently on into account too. Throughout the treatment, a trained anesthesiologist will be on hand to monitor you!

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is the milder option and one safe for kids and adults alike. We will administer this through a mask over your nose. You breathe in a gas and enter a calm state immediately, and the effects wear off once your procedure ends, so you can drive yourself home or even return to work or school. You have little memory of the procedure, but are conscious and able to respond to the dentist as needed.

Oral Conscious

Should you require a deeper form of relaxation, we have oral conscious sedation. You’re still conscious, but have little to no memory of the procedure, and the effects take time to wear off, so be sure someone is available to bring you home afterward. We will administer this about an hour before the procedure begins, usually in the form of medications like Valium or Ativan. You enter a deeper state, and we may recommend avoiding food and drink in the hours before the procedure.

If you have any questions about how our team will keep you calm during your procedure, or about our calming agents in particular, then contact our team today. Dental sedation can help ensure a positive experience at the dentist’s office!
